In 2016, supported by Qingdao ShiBei District Party Committee and the government, the first museum of China-- China(Qingdao) Han Dynasty Portrayal Bricks Museum which aims to collect, display, research Han dynasty portrayal bricks was set up. Han dynasty portrayal bricks appeared in the Spring and Autumn warring state period (almost 2000 years ago), and it thrived in the period of two Han dynasties. Those bricks are used to build, which have figure, colored drawing or carving image on the surface, and they are applied to palaces, ancestral halls and buildings. Han dynasty portrayal bricks are main collections of our museum.
The collector Zhang Xinkuan spent about 30 years searching all collections displayed in our museum. Zhang Xinkuan is a former deputy commander of a unit of Jinan Military Region. In the early 80s, when he led the troops to help the local road construction, Zhang found the Han portrayal bricks scattered in the rural area were severely damaged, and these precious Chinese portrayal bricks were used in the cattle sheds, in the pens of pigs, the latrine pits, and were even smashed to make pavement or fill the pits. Since then, Zhang Xinkuan has begun his protective collection tour.
To develop and expand the Han culture, which is carried by Han dynasty portrayal bricks, Zhang Xinkuan depended totally on himself to set up Qingdao ChongHanXuan Han Dynasty Portrayal Bricks Museum in 2007.With the great support of Qingdao ShiBei District Party Committee and the government, the China(Qingdao) Han Dynasty Portrayal Bricks Museum was set up. Up to now, the museum has accomplished three No.1 because of its abundant collections:
1. the greatest in number nationally;
2. the greatest in the scales and series of the bricks nationally;
3. the greatest in the geographical range of the collections.
China(Qingdao) Han Dynasty Portrayal Bricks Museum locates in Le Huan Road 22, and the total area is about 8300 square meters. The museum is divided into two floors: the first floor has six exhibition halls, which are four big basic exhibition halls called “Chinese Treasures”, “History in Bricks” “Bricks Craftsmanship” “Inheritance from Han Dynasty”, and two special exhibition named “Golden Shining Stones” “Graceful and Meaningful”; the second floor has a showing wall of Han cloth, the biggest showcase of Han pottery in China, an exhibition hall, a lecture hall, the museum of Han culture experience, a cultural and creative supermarket, a cafe, a creative space and rooms for Han education.
