This tour not only takes you to visit some of Jinan’s most famous springs, but for a walk through the old part of the city. On this tour you can experience how the locals live in this city filled with natural springs.
Jinan is a medium-sized city with a population of 8 million, and is the capital city of the Shandong Province. With a number of natural springs scattered throughout the downtown area, Jinan is known as the city of springs.
We recommend that if you are taking the train in, that you arrive in Jinan before 9.30am to ensure you have enough time to complete the whole tour.
Baotu Spring Park was declared the "Number One Spring under the Heaven.” This park is a culturally significant artesian karst spring, mentioned in one of the Five Classics of Chinese literature. It is probably the most wel renowned spring in the downtown area, with the water originating from an Ordovician karst aquifer underneath the city. As the terrain around Jinan slopes from the south of the city down to the north, the recharge area for the aquifer is located in the mountainous area to the south of the city.
The second most significant spring in the city. This spring is named after a legend, as apparently, during ancient times, there was a black rock lying in front of the cave resembling a black tiger, and the sound of the water gushing past the rock was reminiscent of the roar of a tiger.
In the Old City, you’ll be able to see some of the local shops and get local souvenirs. There are lots of vendors here eager to sell, just don’t forget to bargain. You’ll also pass some snack shops, just ask your tour guide if you have any questions about what anything is.
You’ll have lunch at your own cost, but your tour guide can help you recommend somewhere good to go.
The largest lake in the city which sports a constant water level, unaffected by heavy rains or drought. The lake is surrounded by a park with an ensemble of historical buildings, some of which stand on the islands located within the lake. You’ll have some time to enjoy the scenes here.
You’ll be taken back to either the train station to go to your next destination or to your hotel if you are staying the night in Jinan.
The local people are so friendly that if you take this tour on a Sunday, you will have the opportunity to join in with the local people at the English Corner by the springs, a place where they practice their English, it will be a good opportunity to understand more about local people’s life, share your ideas about the world, and make some new Chinese friends.
